Hi! My name is Ragki Yumiko. I’m already 16 years old and I am kinda grown up already and no, I don’t and didn’t have a girlfriend for this whole year but then I have been very happy in this way ‘cause I have nothing to worry about and nothing to cry about if your loved one is lost. I have been alone for these 16 years of my life. Sad to say this but then I’m an orphan. My parents both died in a car crash, it’s a miracle that I survived that crash. When they died I was only a baby, so Ms. Rena, an old woman, adopted me. She was kind to me, as I can remember she took care of me for 8 years and then I’m afraid to say, she passed away because of her old age. So from that day onwards, I earn my money and go to school having inherited her house and etc. Well, Ms Rena is a farmer, so all I can do is to continue her work. Well, enough of my introduction! Now onto my life.
As always I was alone and being teased for not having a father or a mother, just living in a sad school day every day. I ignored those who teased me but my hearts sometimes saddens me. It's 14 February 2005 today and it’s Valentine’s Day so I had I hoped that this day wouldn’t come… anyway… Let’s continue…
As I walk into my classroom, I am surprised to find a present on my desk. I stared at it.
"Hey Ragki, looking good there,” laughed Takashi as he took the present away from my desk. Takashi Mitche is the class perfect, although he may look better than me, but who cares.
"Give it back, Takashi!!” I shouted trying to take it back.
"Knock it off, Takashi!!” Said Keita. Keita Mitko is the only friend that stood up for me when I was small till now. Keita caught hold of his hand.
"Hah!” Takashi threw the present out to the window. I rushed out while Keita gave Takashi a punch. I went out and picked up the present and think.
"Sheesh...why the heck do I care this present for?” I mumbled.
"Oh what the heck!!!” I said and threw the present into the dustbin.
As I am on the way back to the classroom, Keita popped up. "Where’s the present?” asked Keita.
"In the bin, I threw it away.” I said.
"It could be a beautiful girl that gave you that and today is Valentine's Day so you should be happy,” said Keita.
"Everyone knows that I hate Valentine's Day...so it’s a prank that the girls want to play on me,” I said.
"Suit yourself,” Said Keita.
B-bbbrrriiinnnggg, there goes the recess bell.
"Ragki, Can you come here for a moment, please?” Said Aya. Aya Miyuki is a beautiful girl and I heard that Takashi is trying to woo her and Keita once told me that he has a crush on her.
"What a noisy day today!” I mumbled.
"Well, Ragki?” asked Aya.
"Mmm... Sure in a sec,” I said.
"What is it?” I say to her and I was a bit annoyed.
"Ooo...nothing much I just want to ask if you like the present?” asked Aya with a smile.
"Err...nice? But...but...uh...forget it,” I said it in a shameful way.
"Great!! Well I got to go now... Catch you later,” said Aya and she walked away happily. I stood there and watching her walking away happily.
"Why you miserable rat!! What did you just say to Aya?? She is MINE!! Do you want a knuckle sandwich on your face!!??” said Takashi while pushing me from the back.
"Mind your own business, Takashi!” I said.
"You touching her IS my business, Ragki!!” shouted Takashi.
I ignored him and left that place, while his friends held him back to stop him from hitting me.
B-bbbrrriiinnnggg, school’s out.
Still feeling guilty and annoyed, I sat down on the grass field and stared at the sky. Aya walked past and saw me over there.
She came to me and asked, “Where’s the present I gave you?”
"You are quite pissing me off!” I said and walked away... leaving her there alone.
After a while...
"Hey, Ragki, I saw you and Aya together just now... What did she asked you? By the way, here’s the present that you threw,” said Keita popping out from nowhere and threw the present to me.
"Nothing... and thanks,” I replied in a dishonest way and took the present because I didn’t want him to know what Aya said to me.
"Oh...don’t lie to me,” said Keita.
"Really, no kidding... ” I said, lying and feeling a bit annoyed by the way he asked.
"Fine... whatever... Hey you know what?” asked Keita.
"What?” I replied.
"I’m going to propose to her later in the afternoon... I finally got the courage to tell her...After all it’s Valentine's Day!” said Keita.
"Oh ok...” I replied in a weird tone.
"Anyway got to go...Need to prepare for it... later...” said Keita.
"Later..." I said...
"What’s this feeling? I’m feeling a bit sad and pain in my heart...” I mumbled. I looked at the present and stared at it for a while and smiled. My heart cools down because this is the first time I ever get a present from someone.
I reached home and threw the present to a corner and dressed up and went to work a bit...
After a long and tiring harvest, I stared at the sky and suddenly remember the present Aya gave to me. I went back in and unwrapped the present. To my surprise it’s a homemade cookies. I stared at it for a while wanting to taste it. But suddenly, I heard a voice.
"Hey Ragki, You got a minute?” asked Aya.
"Mmm... yea... Wait a sec.” I told her.
I went to her with a drink.
"Hey aren’t you going on a date with Keita?” I asked.
"Yea... You knew about it? I mean what he is going to ask?” She replied.
"Sorta... so did you accept?” I said.
"You got time for tonight? Let’s go out for dinner at Eight in Merrywell,” she replied ignoring my question with a smile.
"Mmm... nope... don’t think so... but what happened to you and Keita??” I asked.
"But... I want to spend the night with you,” said Aya.
"Huh?” I answered.
"I like you... I will wait for you until you come... well anyway I have to go now... bye... hope you can come tonight... ” She answered sadly and ran away quickly.
"What the!!? Hey Wait!! I...” I said but it’s too late... Aya has already disappeared. I stared at the blue sky... it makes me feel at peace.
Wasting my time lofting around my house, I sat there looking around... trying to forget all that had happened... gazing at the sunset, all alone...
"The breeze is nice...” I mumbled.
Time passed by like the continuous drip-drop of water.
~Later that night~
Aya waited and waited... waited for several hours... standing alone waiting for Ragki... Her leg ached and her wearing high heels made it worse. She kept waiting for several more hours and refusing to give up but suddenly it began raining very heavily but still she stood in wait without moving a muscle. Keita stood there watching Aya.
”Stop it! He’s not going to come!” yelled Keita.
”I will wait no matter what! I don’t want to regret it in the future!” answered Aya.
”Why! Why is it GOT to be him and not me!?” said Keita sadly.
She kept her silence for a while and Keita walked away sadly.
~Meanwhile~
”It’s raining,” I sighed and started to walk into the house. I looked at the cookies Aya gave me.
”Why... why do I feel so damn hurt and sad and desperately want to see her!?” I said.
”Haiz... Whatever,” I mumbled. I took the box of cookies.
”RAGKI!!” Shouted someone. “Why are you still here? Aya is waiting for you!!” I looked out of the window and saw Keita. He is crying.
”What do you mean?” I replied taking hold of the box.
”Aya likes you! Not me! Go... go after her!” He said while walking towards me.
”Wait a minute, you’re kidding right? I thought she was kidding,” I said.
”Just go after her!” Keita replied.
”But... but...”I said searching for words but Keita just punched me and all the cookies in the box flew out.
”SHE LIKES YOU! Just GO after her, OK!?” Keita replied angrily.
”What’s the matter with you!!” I shouted back and hit him back, getting pissed off.
”She likes YOU! And that is enough!!” he replied and returned the favor to me with a punch. We kept on punching each other till we dropped.
”She God Damn LIKES You! She is still waiting in Merrywell!!” Keita told me and punched me heavily which make me slept on the floor. I stared at the cookies on the floor and caught hold of the box, which had some cookies inside, and I quickly stood up.
”I finally realized something,” I said in my mind.
”Damn!!” I shouted. Now I realized that I like you, Aya.
”Yeah! You go boy! You owe me BIG time, real big!” yelled Keita wiping his tears while I run towards the town.
I finally reach Merrywell with my clothes wet and heavy and clutching the gift from Aya.
"Hello, May I be of any help to you, mister?” asked the waiter.
"Is... Miss... Aya... here?” I said while panting hardly.
"Mmm... Please wait for a moment while I check the list,” He replied
"Hurry!” I replied loudly.
"Nope. Mmm... It’s just so happened that I saw a girl waiting for someone for a long time. I think maybe she is the one that you are searching for," said the waiter.
"Where is she now?” I said hastily looking out the window.
"I’m afraid to say, she left just before you came in,” answered the waiter politely. I ran out of Merrywell and trying to catch up with her.
"Aya!! Where Are You???” I shouted like a mad dog in the street. Running around in town, I tried to look for Aya but failed.
I walked into a park and sat there alone.
"It’s still raining...” I mumbled looking at the dark clouds.
"Why... why... do I feel so hurt and guilty...” I said sadly, looking at the clock.
"It’s almost midnight. It’s over,” I mumbled.
-BONG! -BONG! -
"It’s... midnight...” I said looking at the box of cookies. “I failed... but I really want to see you, Aya.” I stood up and hit the tree nearby.
"Why!! WHY!!? I should have gone to her earlier!!” I shouted.
"I LIKE YOU, AYA!!” I shouted. The echo can be heard loudly. Finally giving up, I walked a few steps and saw someone behind me. It’s Aya.
"Ragki...” cried Aya.
"Aya...” I said.
"I...like...you” said Aya and we hugged each other crying happily.
"It’s 00.01AM now, so how is everyone’s Valentine's Day? Is it already over? Or has it just started?” announced from a radio far away...
